It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. Aunty Rajesh was truly one of the best people I have known, and she was such a joy to everyone who knew her. I met Aunti as a little girl after becoming friends with Shiromi during their relocation to Jaffna due to the civil war. Aunty always had a special place in her heart for everyone who crossed her path and a special place in her life for me. She always cared so much for everyone, from never forgetting a special occasion to always calling to say hello and share a recipe. She was a foodie and we shared a love of baking. When she makes something special she always saves some for me, including the extra pieces of her special Christmas cake every year. She even made the rich cake for our wedding, of which I still have two pieces in our freezer. Her calls would not end without talking about some recipe or what I would be cooking for any upcoming special events, and it was always something we could connect on.
I loved chatting and spending time with her and will always cherish the last time she said my name when I asked her whether she knew who I was just last week. I’m grateful for all the memories that we have to hold on to. I am so glad my family and I got to know and love her, and I will treasure all the time I had her in my life.
Our deepest sympathies and love to Chrishanthan, Shiromi, Vijay, Ethan, Reya, Nimsy Aunta, and family
Thank you, Varshini, for being there for until the very end.
Thanks Varshini.
